Tooling

Carbide and Diamond

Brazing in the tooling market is the most significant joining technique as friction-locked joints between less cost-intensive carrier materials and expensive tooling materials are feasible. A common carrier material often used is tungsten carbide (hard metal) or boron nitride. The exceptional hardness of polycrystalline diamonds makes this material one to which tooling materials must frequently be brazed. Brazing of Carbide to Carbide is also an established process.

Fields of application ranges from drilling tools to saw blades for cutting wood or asphalt to large mining tools and drilling heads, such as those used for tunnel construction.
